Iran Parliament Speaker Sympathizes with Mexico Quake Victims

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker offered condolences to the families of victims of a strong earthquake that struck central Mexico on Tuesday and killed tens of people.

In a message to Speaker of the Mexican Parliament Jorge Carlos Ramirez Marin released on Thursday, Ali Larijani expressed sympathy with the Mexican people, parliament and government.

Larijani also wished patience for the families of victims and swift recovery for the injured.

The large earthquake killed more than 200 people in Mexico and toppled dozens of buildings in the capital, Mexico City.

President Enrique Pena Nieto said more than 20 children had died and 30 were missing after a school collapsed.

The 7.1 magnitude quake also caused major damage in neighboring states.

The tremor struck shortly after many people had taken part in an earthquake drill, exactly 32 years after a quake killed thousands in Mexico City.

Mexico is prone to earthquakes and earlier this month an 8.1 magnitude tremor in the south left at least 90 people dead.
