Trump’s ‘Foolish’ Comments on Iran Rooted in US Defeats in West Asia: Leader

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei deplored recent remarks by US President Donald Trump against Iran as “foolish, very ugly and ignoble” and said they were rooted in Washington’s anger over its defeats in West Asia.

“The foolish, very ugly, and ignoble speech of the US president, with its gangster and cowboy language full of sheer lies, is rooted in their anger, frustration, and light-headedness,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with members of Iran’s Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Thursday.

The US president’s comments were not a source of pride for the American nation, the Leader said, adding that the American elite should be ashamed of having such a president, as they have already done so.

The remarks did not stem from power but from anger and frustration because the Americans are infuriated that their years-long plots in West Asia have been foiled following the Islamic Republic’s effective presence in the region, the Leader stated.

Since years ago, the Americans have pursued a plan in West Asia calling it “New Middle East” or “the Greater Middle East”, Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding that their plan focused on Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.

“According to this plot, Iraq with its old history and civilization, Syria as the center of (anti-Israeli) resistance, and Lebanon with its special position were supposed to be dominated by the United States and the Zionist regime,” Ayatollah Khamenei said, stressing that they faced defeat in all the three countries.

The Leader made the remarks in response to Trump, who claimed during his first address to a session of the UN General Assembly that Iran’s “support for terror is in stark contrast to the recent commitments of many of its neighbors to fight terrorism and halt its financing.”

The assertion came while it is the US and some of its regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, that have been staunch supporters of Takfiri terrorists in the Muslim states of Syria and Iraq.

It is no secret that Daesh Takfiri terrorists were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government.

Tehran, meanwhile, has been praised for its support for anti-terrorism efforts by the governments in Damascus and Baghdad.
