FIVB Women’s World Championship Asian Qualifiers: Iran Beaten by N. Korea

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran was overpowered by North Korea 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-18) in Pool B of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Japan 2018 Asian Qualifiers on Thursday.

Iran had started the campaign with a 3-0 loss to host Thailand at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Centre Gymnasium.

The Persians will meet South Korea on Friday.

Iran head coach Mirmostafa Shojaei commented about his team’s performance after the match: “As you know, despite the loss, DPR Korea played exceptionally well against Korea on Wednesday. Therefore, we had learned that although we might go down to DPR Korea in this match, our young players still can obtain more experience from them.

“We next play Korea, one of the strong teams in this tournament. So, it’s very difficult to beat them. What we need is for our young players to learn more with the Koreans for their brighter future.”

A total of 24 teams will contest next year’s FIVB Women’s World Championship Finals in Japan from September 30 to October 21, 2018.

The teams which have already qualified for the top-flight championship included host Japan, defending world champion USA, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Italy, Azerbaijan, Germany, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Brazil.
