Beating Kuwait 3-Nil Takes Iranian National Volleyballers 50 Minutes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Defending Asian volleyball champions, Iran, in their second and last game in the preliminary round of the 2013 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championships on Sunday blanked Kuwait 3-0 in a 50-minute match.

Argentinean Head Coach Julio Velasco’s team appeared at the field with the same combination of players, save for Adel Qolami who had a rest period before the next round games where teams from Iraq and South Korea are to be faced.

Iran won the three sets of the game 25-13, 25-12 and 25-17 one after the other respectively.

Iran, began its first game in the Dubai Asian Volleyball Championships on Saturday with a straight 3-nil victory in an easy game against Kazakhstan.

Velasco’s team began the game so professionally that it was evident from the very beginning that the Kazakhs had no chance for the 17th Asian Volleyball Championship.

Seven-time champion Japan, are placed in Pool E with Oman and Sri Lanka, are unlikely to face a major challenge from their rivals.

Defending champions Iran, who beat China 3-1 in the final of the last edition held in Tehran in 2011, are placed in Pool C along with Kuwait and Kazakhstan. Iran played their first match against Kazakhstan on Saturday and Kuwait on Sunday, beating both 3-0.

Twenty-four teams have participated in the tournament, which kicked off in Dubai on September 28 and will end on October 6.

Currently, Iran's volleyball team is at the 12th spot in the ranking of  the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB), ahead of two other Asian teams, China and Japan, which appear in the 16th and 19th spots.
