Larijani: Time for Militarism over in Region, World
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Time is over for militarism in the world and serious diplomatic work and political initiatives are needed to resolve the ongoing crises in the Middle East, the Iranian parliament speaker said.
Larijani also said in a meeting with Secretary General of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) member states Mahmud Erol Kilic in Tehran that the time for standing idly by in the face of the conflicts that are raging on in the region is, too, over.
The two officials also exchanged viewpoints on the present day dilemmas of the Islamic world, and explored ways to address such problems.
Kilic, for his part, said the union has been established with the purpose of strengthening unity and solidarity among Muslim countries and lauded the constant support of the Iranian parliament for the body.
The Parliamentary Union of the OIC is comprised of the parliaments of the member states. It was founded in Iran on 17 June 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran.
The Secretary General of PUIC represented a report on the activities of his affiliated union’s secretariat during the meeting and said that the objective behind establishment of the parliamentary body was strengthening and fortifying Islamic unity and solidarity.
The two sides also exchanged opinion on the time and place of holding the 9th Conference of the PUIC parliament speakers.
