Iran, Armenia Discuss Expansion of Energy Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh and Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan held a meeting in Tehran during which both sides called for enhanced cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.

During the meeting on Tuesday, Zangeneh and Karapetyan expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and stressed that the two neighboring states have great opportunities for more interaction, Arka news agency reported.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Karapetyan started his official visit to Iran on Monday at the invitation of Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri.

Issues related to the Meghri hydropower plant program and Armenia-Iran-Turkmenistan trilateral cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.

In December, in a high-profile meeting in Yerevan attended by the presidents of the two countries, ranking officials from Iran and Armenia signed five documents, including an agreement on using a joint border crossing linking Iran’s Norduz to Armenia’s Meghri.
