Iran, Iraq Ink MoU on Naval Cooperation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior navy commanders of Iran and Iraq on Monday signed a military agreement that includes cooperation in scientific and research fields, exchange of experience and manufacturing of naval facilities and equipment among other issues.
The agreement signed by the Iraqi Navy Commander Major General Ali Hussain Ali and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi has articles on bilateral cooperation in scientific and research fields, exchange of experience, training and manufacturing of naval facilities and equipment.
The two navy commanders in their meeting also stressed the need to improve and broaden naval and security relations between the two countries and welcomed the rising trend in bilateral military cooperation.
Rear Admiral Fadavi also said that greater cooperation between the two neighboring countries’ navies would help boost regional peace and security.
Major General Ali Hussain Ali, too, said Iran-Iraq cooperation will benefit the regional nations and announced Baghdad’s readiness to step up cooperation with Tehran, particularly in the naval field.
Iran and Iraq had on September 24 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost defense cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The MoU was signed by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his visiting Iraqi counterpart, Saadoun al-Dulaimi, in Tehran.
The two senior military officials had described the expansion of Tehran-Baghdad defense cooperation as an important factor in promoting peace and stability in the region.
