Iranian Air Defense Units to Test Capabilities in Upcoming Drill

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian air defense units plan to carry out massive joint exercises in October, the country’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base announced on Monday.

According to Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili, some 8,000 forces will directly take part in the wargames, while 17,000 others will be involved with logistics.

The joint air-defense exercises are set to be conducted in western Iran.

Esmaeili had announced earlier that the nationwide joint air-defense exercises will be held in cold mountainous regions of Iran around mid-October.

He explained that the drills are aimed at testing air defense systems’ performance in different weather conditions.

The commander had also announced that “Haazem 3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) will be unveiled and tested” in the upcoming drills.

Haazem is a newly unveiled Iranian UAV with bombing abilities. It is a long range aircraft which can be used in air defense operations.

The commander had earlier said that the base had several types of drones which have been used in several drills in a bid to test and boost air defense units’ preparedness to confront aerial attacks by potential enemy drones.

“Therefore, the air defense forces are fully prepared to repel aerial threats posed by drones in different flight altitude, speed and power,” he added.
