Iranian Speaker in Russia to Attend IPU Assembly

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has paid an official visit to the Russian port city of Saint Petersburg to participate in the 137th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Larijani started his trip to St. Petersburg on Thursday to deliver a speech in the IPU Assembly taking place under the theme “Promoting Cultural Pluralism and Peace through Inter-faith and Inter-ethnic Dialogue.”

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Larijani said the IPU conference is slated to focus on security cooperation among the member states.

The IPU is an international organization, which brings together representatives of parliaments to promote contacts, coordination and exchange of experiences among parliamentarians.

It has standing committees on Peace and International Security, Democracy and Human Rights, United Nations Affairs as well as Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade.
