Esteghlal Edges Nassaji in Iran’s Hazfi Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal football team edged past Nassaji Mazandaran 2-1 at Tehran's Azadi Stadium to seal a spot in Iran’s Hazfi Cup last eight.

Farshid Esmaeili was on target 28 minutes into the match and Ali Ghorbani scored Esteghlal’s second goal just before the hour mark.

Mohammad Ousani reduced the deficit in the 70th minute.

It was Winfried Schafer’s first win in Esteghlal. The German coach replaced Alireza Mansourian in early October.

Esteghlal’s arch-rival Persepolis will play Naft Tehran in Round of 16 on Saturday.

Esteghlal is Hazfi Cup’s most decorated team with six titles.
