Bus Accident Injures 33 Iranian Pilgrims in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A bus carrying Iranian pilgrims from Tehran to the Iraqi holy city of Najaf crashed in Iraq's Badra region in the eastern province of Wasit near Iran-Iraq border on Saturday. Medical sources said 33 pilgrims were injured in the accident.

The bus with 44 passengers on board overturned in Badra region of Iraq and as a result 33 people were injured, Head of Iran’s Emergency Medical Services Pir-Hossein Kolivand told reporters on Saturday.

He noted that 27 out of 33 people being accepted in Mahran border region’s hospital have been dispatched to Iranian western city of Ilam hospital to receive further treatment.

Governor of Mahran border region in Ilam province said that all the injured have been transferred from Iraq to Iran and nobody died in the incident.

Later, President of Medical University of Ilam Ali Delpisheh said two of the injured pilgrims are in critical condition.

Over two million Iranians will traveled to Iraq for Arbaeen, a major Shiite occasion marking the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
