Iran’s Esteqlal Fails to Reach AFC Champions League Final

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s popular soccer team, Esteqlal, failed to reach the AFC Champions League final after a 2-2 draw against FC Seoul in Tehran on Wednesday evening.

FC Seoul drew 2-2 with Esteqlal in Tehran to go through 4-2 on aggregate after last week's 2-0 home leg win.

FC Seoul is the fifth straight club from South Korea's K League Classic to make the finals at the top Asian club football competition.

In the finals, FC Seoul will meet Guangzhou Evergrande of China.

Marcello Lippi's Guangzhou Evergrande stormed into their first AFC Champions League final with a 4-0 rout and 8-1 aggregate win over Kashiwa Reysol.

The championship series will also be two-legged, and the opening match will be held at Seoul World Cup Stadium on an October day to be determined later.

Choi Yong-soo, FC Seoul's head coach, said he was happy with the result, but his team's task is far from finished.

"We played in Tehran's superb stadium and scored two very good goals," he told AFC's website.
