Iran's Morteza Mehrzad Dreams of Winning Tokyo 2020 Gold

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian sitting volleyball player Morteza Mehrzad dreams of claiming a gold medal at his second successive Paralympic Games, in Tokyo.

The world's tallest sitting volleyball player performed a key role in helping Iran win the title in Rio 2016.

Mehrzad was already named the Best Spiker at the 2016 Intercontinental Cup in Anji in the People’s Republic of China.

“All the athletes that compete in Tokyo dream of winning Paralympic gold and I am no exception,” Mehrzad told Paralympic.ir.

“We know we have a difficult task ahead of us to repeat our gold medal since the teams like Russia, Ukraine and Brazil have achieved prominence, but we are Iran and want to regain the title as the paralympic’s most decorated team,” Mehrzad added.

“Everything changed when I joined Iran’s national sitting volleyball team. I want people with disabilities to know that sports still is an option, and they have to leave their homes to start sports,” he concluded.
