Severe Clashes Erupt in Last Stronghold of Daesh in Syria
DEIR EZ-ZOR (Tasnim) – Severe clashes erupted between Syrian army forces and the Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group in the eastern city of Albu Kamal, the last stronghold of Daesh in the Arab country near the border with Iraq, sources said on Monday.
According to Tasnim dispatches, as the Syrian army’s operation to clear Albu Kamal from Daesh terrorists continues, army troops clashed with the foreign-backed militants in southeastern and southwestern parts of the city.
Syrian troops backed by allied forces had managed to recapture Albu Kamal on Thursday.
However, reports that Daesh terrorists have recaptured major parts of Albu Kamal emerged on Saturday two days after the Syrian army declared it had taken full control over the town.
Local sources also announced that two suicide attacks targeted a military airfield in Deir ez-Zor.
Two suicide bombers exploded themselves after entering the military site with a booby-trapped vehicle, the sources said.
Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups wreaking havoc in the country.
