Syria Welcomes Final Statement of Sochi Summit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria welcomed the final statement of the Iran, Russia and Turkey tripartite summit held on Wednesday in the Russian city of Sochi.

“In light of the Syrian Arab Republic’s commitment to support any political step that respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and contributes to sparing the blood of the Syrian people, the Syrian government welcomes the final statement of the tripartite summit held in Sochi,” an official source at Syria’s foreign and expatriates ministry said.

The source added that the summit comes as a completion of the Russian-Syrian summit held on Monday and its outcomes regarding the agreement to continue the fight against terrorism, the basic principles to organize the political track for the crisis in Syria, hold a Syrian-Syrian national dialogue conference and form a committee to discuss the current constitution and later run parliamentary elections.

Presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey convened in Sochi on Wednesday for talks about the future of Syria as the Arab country has gotten rid of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

In the summit, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan weighed up plans for sustainable calm in Syria and discussed a subsequent congress for Syrian-Syrian talks about the future of the Arab country in the post-Daesh era.

On November 19, Daesh terrorists were flushed out of their last stronghold in Syria’s al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.
