Iran Missile Capabilities Non-Negotiable: Senior MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker reiterated that Iran’s missile capabilities are for defending the country and will not be subject to any negotiations.

“Iran’s (stance on its) missile capabilities has been declared times and again. (The issue) is non-negotiable indeed. Therefore, no country, including the US, can define any type of restrictions (upon Iranian missile program),” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said, speaking to reporters in the western city of Boroujerd.

He also stressed that Iran has never wanted access to weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), saying the missile capabilities are only “to defend our territorial integrity.”

Iran has always stressed that its military might and test of missiles are an issue relating to defense of its territorial integrity and has nothing to do with the JCPOA, the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) back in July 2015.

Iran has also underscored frequently that its military might poses no threat to other countries and that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
