Iran Awaiting Turkey’s Detailed Report on Border Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tehran is waiting for Ankara to provide a detailed account of what occurred in a recent attack on Iranian border guards that killed two troops in the northwestern Maku region a few days ago.

Speaking to Tasnim on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has promised to follow the Monday’s attack up.

Iran is waiting for the Turkish officials to give a detailed report of the incident, he added.

Qassemi noted that Iranian organizations are also investigating the incident to ascertain what happened in the shootout that initially killed an Iranian border guard and wounded four others.

The weather in the region was foggy at the time of the attack, he said, adding that a detailed investigation is necessary.

In the Monday attack, reportedly carried out by the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK) terrorist group, an Iranian border guard was killed and four others wounded.

The injured Iranian guards were taken to a hospital in Turkey’s city of Kars, but one of them succumbed to injuries and died later.

The body of Sergeant Towhid Malekzadeh was repatriated from Turkey in a formal ceremony on Tuesday.
