Iran Urges Concerted, Urgent Action on Move against Al-Quds

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denounced as “provocative and dangerous” the US decision to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the Israeli regime’s capital, calling for concerted action by Muslim and peace-loving nations to defy such an illegal measure.

In a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, President Rouhani said all Muslim countries should join hands and stand against the US’s “wrong, illegal, provocative and very dangerous” move to recognize al-Quds as the Zionist regime’s capital.

He also hailed the Turkish president’s initiative to hold an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul to discuss the issue, saying Iran takes up the invitation to the summit.

While the region requires stability and security, such illegal moves by the US and Israel could push “the Palestinian state and the whole region” toward instability, Rouhani added.

Deploring the Israeli regime’s violation of UN resolutions and opposition to calls from the international community, Rouhani said that the Zionist regime is, without a doubt, responsible for all instabilities and insecurities.

For his part, the Turkish president said US President Donald Trump’s worrying decision results from internal rifts in the Muslim world, stressing that Islamic countries should express unity and stand against the US move that is in violation of human rights and of all UN decisions about that status of Quds.

Turkey is going to host an extraordinary OIC meeting to discuss the status of Quds. A spokesman for the Turkish government told reporters in Ankara on Wednesday that the meeting will give an opportunity to Muslim leaders to act together and coordinate their response to Trump’s expected recognition of aQuds as Israel’s capital.
