Iran's 'Persian Gulf' Delegation Comes Second at Asian Youth Para Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian 114-member sportspersons became runner-up at the third edition of the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday.

Young Japanese Para athletes came first after winning 43 gold medals, 29 silvers and 26 bronzes with 98 medals overall.

Iran finished in second place for a total of 118 medals, including 39 gold, 44 silver and 35 bronze medals.

China came third, claiming 27 gold, nine silver and five bronze medals for a total of 41 medals.

Host the UAE came 10th, seizing 17 medals (nine golds, five silver, three bronze).

Japan and Iran were the two largest teams at the Games with 89 and 114 athletes respectively. Japan shown strong performances particularly in swimming, where the country owns 14 gold medals. Iran shown its strength in athletics and powerlifting.

The third Asian Youth Para Games brought 800 athletes together from 30 countries in the largest number of sports with seven.

Iran delegation’s name was “Persian Gulf” in the competition.
