Iran, Russia Form Committee on Joint Projects

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Russia have set up a joint committee to pursue the implementation of joint projects in the energy and railroad industries, Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani announced.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Monday evening upon his return from a six-party counterterrorism conference in Pakistan, Larijani said he had the opportunity to hold meetings with his foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the event to discuss the economic issues.

In the meeting with chairman of Russia’s Duma, talks were held on joint projects between Tehran and Moscow in the railroad and energy industry, the speaker added, saying the two sides established a joint committee to pursue the implementation of the projects.

He also noted that the participants in the Islamabad meeting came up with plans to boost economic cooperation in order to combat poverty in the region, and to strengthen coordination for joint investment.

Heading a parliamentary delegation, Larijani had joined his counterparts from Pakistan, Russia, China, Turkey and Afghanistan in Islamabad for a two-day meeting to discuss and address the challenges of terrorism and inter-regional connectivity.

The Iranian speaker gave two addresses to the conference and proposed plans for closer intelligence cooperation among regional countries in the fight against terrorism.
