Israeli Jets Attack Gaza Strip

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli warplanes targeted positions in the Gaza-Egypt border on Saturday as protests and clashes in the occupied Palestinian lands continued more than a month after the US decision to recognize Jerusalem (al-Quds) as capital of the Israeli regime.

The Israel military claimed that it has struck a Palestinian resistance movement’s infrastructure near the Gaza-Egypt border on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Israeli regime’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened the Palestinians with more attacks.

Since December, the Israeli military has been targeting Palestinian resistance movements’ tunnels inside the Gaza strip.

The Israeli military also announced on Saturday evening that it would be closing the Kerem Shalom crossing after an assessment of the current security situation, but did not provide further details.

In December, both the Kerem Shalom and Erez crossings into Israel were closed.

In the meantime, clashes between the Palestinians and Israeli forces is continuing in the West Bank and the Gaza border areas and three Palestinians who crossed the border fence from Gaza were arrested Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces fired tear gas as hundreds of Palestinians in the West Bank protested against the detention of a prominent teenage activist and her mother on Saturday.

Palestinians from various villages in the occupied West Bank gathered in Nabi Saleh to demand the release of Ahed Tamimi, 16 who was detained on December 19 in an overnight raid at her home.

The demonstrators slammed also the US President Donald Trump's move last month to recognize (al-Quds) Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

According to the reports, the soldiers instantly resorted to the excessive use of force, and fired many gas bombs, concussion grenades and rubber-coated steel bullets, wounding two young men with rubber-coated steel bullets.

Earlier this week, a Gaza Strip resident was killed during protests at the border fence with Israel.

Also, nearly 300 Palestinians were injured Friday in a new wave of clashes with Israeli police on the Gaza Strip border and in the occupied West bank.

"The number of people hurt today… has reached 290, including 45 wounded by live fire, 30 by rubber bullets and 215 by tear gas," the Palestine Red Crescent Society’s Erab Fuqaha said Friday.

Violence erupted in Palestinian territories followed the US decision last month to recognize Jerusalem (al-Quds) as Israel's capital, prompting international condemnation and a UN majority vote to reverse it.

Palestinians claim east Jerusalem (al-Quds) as the capital of their own state. Some 850 people were estimated Friday to oppose Israeli police in 17 locations in the West bank and another thousand in four locations along the Gaza Strip’s border with Israel.
