Iraqi Politician Urges Negotiated Solution for Bahrain

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Leader of Iraq’s National Alliance Ammar al-Hakim called for political negotiations to resolve the problems in Bahrain peacefully.

In a meeting with a delegation from Bahrain’s parliament, held in Iraq, Hakim voiced support for the Bahraini people and stressed the need for political negotiations to settle the problems in that country.

The Iraqi figure also expressed readiness to provide Bahrain with the experience to deal with the troubles.

Pointing to Iraq’s strength and integrity, Hakim said his country could become a bridge to dialogue among regional countries.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf, has been witnessing regular protests against the Al Khalifa regime since early 2011, with security forces resorting to crackdown against demonstrators.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the protests.
