No Way for Iran Missile Talks: MP
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker denounced the Western push for a revision of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or talks on Iran’s missile capabilities, saying Tehran will never allow anyone to interfere in its internal affairs.
Speaking to Tasnim, Chairman of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran’s missile program is an internal issue that is not subject to negotiations at all.
He also took a swipe at the French officials for voicing concern about Iran’s missile program, and also dismissed the idea of re-negotiating the JCPOA, the multilateral agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
His comments came after France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Monday accused Iran of not respecting part of a UN resolution that calls on Tehran to refrain from work on ballistic missiles designed to carry nuclear warheads.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) signed the JCPOA in July 2015 and started to implement it in January 2016.
After the JCPOA was reached, the 15-member United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that endorsed the nuclear agreement.
Resolution 2231 calls upon Iran “not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”
Iranian officials have time and again reiterated that none of the country’s missiles have been designed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads, because nuclear weapons have basically no place in Iran’s defense doctrine.
