Speaker Calls for Expansion of Economic Cooperation with Croatia
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian parliament speaker emphasized the necessity for expansion of relations between Tehran and Zagreb, particularly in economic fields.
In a Friday meeting with Croatian President Ivo Josipovic in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, Ali Larijani said economic ties between Iran and the European nation could flourish in light of the existing capacities for bilateral relations.
The Iranian parliament speaker paid a visit to Croatia on the last leg of his tour of three European countries that earlier took him to Serbia and Switzerland.
Josipovic, for his part, expressed his country’s readiness to enhance its economic and cultural ties with Iran. He also voiced support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology within the framework of international norms.
His remarks came while top diplomats from Iran and the G5+1, also known as P5+1, which includes the five permanent members of the UN Security Council as well as Germany are to meet in Geneva on October 15 and 16 to discuss Iran's nuclear program.
In relevant remarks on October 8, Larijani had once again called on the West to accept Iran’s right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes, as allowed under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to which Iran is a signatory.
He said Iran is serious about resolving the dispute over its nuclear program, and is keen to resolve the issue in a short period of time.
The United States and the European Union have imposed illegal unilateral sanctions against Iran under the pretext that Iran may be trying to develop a capacity to make nulear weapons under the guise of its civilian energy program.
Iran has strongly rejected the allegation, arguing that numerous inspections of its nuclear sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have invariably failed to find any diversion towards military purposes.
