Iranian Envoy Hails Close Regional Cooperation between Tehran, Ankara

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian ambassador to Turkey praised the growing ties between the two countries in various areas and said Tehran and Ankara can help boost regional stability and security through cooperation in various regional and international fields.

Fortunately, the balanced political, cultural, and economic relations between Iran and Turkey have reflected a growing trend in recent years, Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian Fard said in a speech in Ankara.

He further emphasized that Tehran and Ankara can help bring security, stability and development to the region through boosting interaction and observing common principles and international rules.

The Iranian diplomat also pointed to regional cooperation between the two countries and said the cooperation among Iran, Turkey, and Iraq on the issue of the Iraqi Kurdistan region proved the two countries’ capacities to prevent foreign interference aimed at creating crises in the region.

The remarks came after high-ranking officials from Iran and Turkey signed a roadmap for the development of cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various security fields, including efforts to boost border control and counter money laundering.

The roadmap was signed at the end of the second session of the joint working group of interior ministry officials of Iran and Turkey held in Ankara from December 13 to 15.

Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari and his Turkish counterpart headed the delegations of the two countries in the session.

In the three-day session, the two sides focused on various areas of cooperation, including efforts to combat drug smuggling, human trafficking, organized crimes, illegal border crossing, terrorism and money laundering.
