Syrian Forces Advance in Northwestern Town

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops made advances in the battle against remnants of Takfiri terrorist groups in Abu Dhuhour town, 40 kilometers southeast of Idlib.

Backed by allied forces, the Syrian military forces made advances on terrorists inside the strategic Abu Dhuhour region southeast of Idlib, according to Syria's al-Ekhbariya TV.

Syria’s army has launched a military campaign in eastern Hama province in a push toward Idlib to recapture territories from the al-Nusra Front terrorist group.

A main purpose of the operation was to capture the Abu Dhuhour military airbase. On January 20, the pro-government fighters, led by the Tiger Forces, entered the airbase and liberated the villages of Um Tina, Mazyunah, Aliya and Um Wadi in eastern Idlib.

Idlib has been a haven for tens of thousands of rebels and civilians who were forced to abandon their homes in other parts of western Syria that the government and its foreign military allies have recaptured from terrorists.

Syria is in the final stages of a battle against Takfiri terrorist groups, which poured into the Arab country after the outbreak of a civil war in 2011.

On November 19, the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group was flushed out of its last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.
