Syria Air Defense Intercepts Israeli Missiles: Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian army air defense on Wednesday morning repelled a new attack by the Israeli forces on one of its military positions in Damascus countryside.
General Command of the Syrian Army and the Armed Forces said in a statement that “warplanes of the Israeli enemy on 3:42 am on Wednesday fired several missiles from inside the Lebanese territories on one of our military positions in Damascus countryside, and the air defense intercepted the missiles and destroyed most of them.”
It added that Israel aim to raise the morale of the terrorist organizations which are collapsing in all areas and to encourage terrorists to continue their attacks against civilians, particularly in Damascus and its countryside.
The General Command of the Syrian Army and the Armed Forces statement stressed the Syrian armed forces’ readiness to repel the attacks and to continue the war against terrorism till eliminating it and restoring security and stability across the country.
“The General Command of Syrian Army and the Armed Forces holds Israel fully responsible for the dangerous consequences of its repeated, aggressive and uncalculated adventures,” it added.
During the past few years, Israel has frequently attacked targets in Syria in what is considered as an attempt to prop up terrorist groups that have been suffering defeats in their fight against Syrian government forces.
Back in April 2015, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially admitted for the first time that the regime's military had conducted strikes in Syrian territory.
Damascus says Israel and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups operating inside the Arab country, while the Tel Aviv regime's military carries out such sporadic strikes against Syrian government forces. The Israeli regime has even set up field hospitals to treat wounded militants evacuated from Syria.
