Hamas Trying to Form Alliance against US Quds Move: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hamas Leader Mushir al-Masri said the recent visit of a delegation from the movement to Egypt is aimed at forming “an Arab front” to face the US decision to relocate is embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Masri said on Friday that the visit of the delegation headed by Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh to Cairo aims to counter US decisions against Palestinians.

In his participation in a sit-in that was held in loyalty for martyr Ahmad Jarrar in Gaza, Masri told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that Hamas is keen to boost relations with all Arab and Muslim countries, especially Egypt, in order to protect the Palestinian cause and to enhance the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.

He asked Arab states to bear their responsibilities for supporting the Palestinian people and ending the internal division.

Masri also said that the Hamas delegation is going to hold talks on the Palestinian reconciliation and mutual relations between both parties.

The remarks came after US President Donald Trump officially declared the disputed city of al-Quds Israel's capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.

In a speech at the White House on December 6, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The announcement was a major shift by Washington that overturns decades of US foreign policy.

Palestinian leaders had previously warned the move would threaten a two-state solution.

Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law, the area is considered to be occupied territory.
