Persepolis One Win Away from Winning Iran Professional League Title

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team will win Iran Professional League title if the team beats its arch rival Esteghlal in Tehran derby on Thursday.

Persepolis edged past Esteghlal Khuzestan 1-0 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Saturday thanks to a Siamak Nemati’s goal in the 37th minute.

Earlier on the day, Esteghlal defeated Foolad 4-1 in Ahvaz thanks to a brace from its Senegalese striker Mame Baba Thiam in the 3rd and 93rd minutes and goals from Rouzbeh Cheshmi (8th) and Dariush Shojaeian (17th).

Rahim Zahivi scored Foolad’s only goal with a header in the 13th minute.

Pars Jonoubi was held to a 1-1 draw by Tractor Sazi in Abadan and Zob Ahan defeated Padideh 2-1 in Isfahan.

With six weeks remaining, Persepolis is top of the IPL table with 57 points, 16 points clear of Zob Ahan at second place.
