Iran, Bosnia Eye Broader Trade Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bosnia-Herzegovina’s prime minister and the foreign minister of Iran discussed plans to boost economic and financial ties between the two countries, stressing the need for closer banking interaction.
In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Sarajevo on Friday evening, Bosnian Premier Denis Zvizdic voiced his country’s willingness to boost relations with Iran without any limits.
Hailing the Iranian support for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past, Zvizdic called for easier banking ties and implementation of a preferential trade agreement between Tehran and Sarajevo.
For his part, Zarif expressed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with all Bosnian ethnicities, highlighting the need for regular sessions of joint economic commission.
In their talks, the two top officials also called for efforts to ease visa regime between the two nations.
During his stay in the Bosnian capital, the Iranian foreign minister also had a meeting with Chairman of the House of Peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ognjen Tadic and a group of lawmakers.
The meeting revolved around closer bilateral ties in the cultural fields, tourism industry, regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism, and stronger trade exchange.
Foreign Minister Zarif has travelled to Bosnia in the final leg of a Balkan tour that took him earlier to Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria in cold winter weather.
The European Union is a strong supporter of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany). Nearly all EU members are looking for ways to take advantage of Iran’s lucrative market.
