Black Box of Iran’s Doomed Plane Found: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian search and rescuer teams dispatched to Mount Dena southwest of the country managed to find the black box of the ATR 72 plane that recently crashed in the area, killing all 65 people on board, a senior official said.

They found the black box of the ill-fated aircraft in the heights of Mount Dena, the deputy head of the crisis management department of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province announced on Saturday.

The climbers, who had received required training from a French team, managed to find the black box and then moved it to the foot of the mountain, he said.

The official went on to say that the rescuers also discovered some more bodies of the victims of the tragic incident.

On February 18, the ATR plane, flying from capital Tehran to the southwestern city of Yasouj, crashed into near the top of Mount Pazanpir with a height of 4,300 meters.

After an intense search operation for the missing flight, choppers of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) found the charred wreckage of the plane bearing the Aseman Airlines insignia on February 20.

Blizzard and strong winds in the area brought all rescue efforts to a halt for several days.

Speculations link the crash to adverse weather conditions, technical problems, or a culmination of such factors.

The doomed plane was a twin-engine turboprop used for short flight routes.
