Hezbollah Official Raps Weak Arab Reaction to Trump’s Quds Move

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior official of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement criticized Arab governments for their insufficient reaction to the Trump administration’s announcement that the US will open its embassy in the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) in May.

In an interview with Tasnim, Sheikh Ali Damush, a senior official at Hezbollah’s executive council, called for practical reaction to the US president’s decision to recognize Quds as the capital of Israel and open the new US embassy there in May.

“Countering this (Trump’s) measure should not be limited to issuing statements and condemnation, as Arab foreign ministers did in reaction to Trump’s decision,” he said.

Sheikh Damush stressed that all measures and options should be employed to mount pressure on the US and force it to reverse the decision.

Should Trump carry out his plan for Quds, the Israeli regime will take new “dangerous actions” against the Palestinian people, Damush warned.

On February 23, the Trump administration said the US embassy in Jerusalem will open on May 14 in order to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Zionist regime of Israel’s self-proclaimed independence.

Trump’s move in December 2017 to recognize Quds as Israel’s capital also drew widespread international condemnation and sparked protests in the Palestinian territories.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has described the US controversial move as a sign of “weakness and incompetence”, saying, “The Islamic world will definitely stand against this plot and the Zionists will receive a bigger blow.”

“Dear Palestine will be undoubtedly liberated at last,” the Leader said recently, stressing that the issue of Palestine is the paramount political subject in the Muslim world.
