Geneva Nuclear Talks Come to Close with Zarif, Ashton Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The two-day nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers ended on Wednesday evening after top negotiators representing the two sides concluded a wrap-up session.

The wrap-up session was held between Ianian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is also Iran's top nuclear negotiator, and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who oversees diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the six world powers this afternoon.

Top diplomats from Iran and the G5+1, also known as P5+1, which includes the five permanent members of the UN Security Council --Russia, China, the US, Britain and France-- as well as Germany started this fresh round of two-day negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program in Switzerland on Tuesday morning.

Iran and the other side held two rounds of talks on Tuesday. The first round was held in the morning, attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton. Zarif and Ashton were not present in the afternoon round of talks.

On Wednesday, the first session was held at the level of deputy foreign minister, with only Zarif and Ashton attending the final session.

The two sides also issued a joint statement at the end of their talks.
