Syria Army Discovers Chemical Weapons Workshop in Ghouta
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian forces have discovered a workshop near the capital Damascus used by Takfiri terrorists to manufacture chemical weapons, Russian news agencies reported on Monday citing a Syrian commander.
Syria’s government troops have found a makeshift workshop for making chemical weapons, Colonel Ferraz Ibrahim said on Monday, according to the Tass news agency.
The workshop was found as the Arab country’s troops combed the town of Aftris, a recently-liberated area in Eastern Ghouta, following the militants’ pullout.
"Apparently, the charges were made as part of preparations for a provocation with the aim to eventually accuse government troops of using chemical weapons," the Syrian field commander said.
Eastern Ghouta, a besieged area on the outskirts of Damascus with some 400,000 people, has witnessed deadly violence over the past few weeks, as Takfiri terrorist outfits have launched mortar attacks on the Syrian capital in the face of an imminent humiliating defeat, killing around 20 civilians in two weeks.
The US and its western and regional allies have often pointed their fingers at the Syrian government for chemical attacks, which Damascus has consistently denied.
Syria surrendered its chemical stockpiles in 2014 under the supervision of the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
The discovery of the workshop is yet another revelation in a prolonged debate on who used chemical weapons in Syria.
