Problems Facing Pakistani Pilgrims in Iran to Be Resolved: FM Zarif

ISLAMABAD (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Islamabad on an official visit, pledged that problems facing Pakistani pilgrims visiting Iran’s holy cities would be resolved through the two countries’ cooperation.

“We welcome the Pakistani brothers and sisters who travel to Iran for pilgrimage,” Zarif told Tasnim in the Pakistani capital.

He further emphasized that problems facing the Pakistani pilgrims would be resolved through cooperation and coordination between Tehran and Islamabad.

Zarif arrived in Islamabad on Sunday at the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation.

During his three-day visit and after participating in political and economic meetings in the Pakistani capital, Zarif plans to travel to the business and industrial hub of Karachi, where further economic talks have been scheduled.

Each year, some 200,000 Pakistani Shiites visit Iran on pilgrimages to Mashhad and other holy cities.

The population of Shiites in Pakistan is estimated to be at least 16 million from a total of above 190 million.
