MP Urges Lodging Complaint over Iran Embassy Attack in London

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission called on the Foreign Ministry to lodge an official complaint to international courts over a recent attack on the country’s embassy in London.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Kamal Dehqani pointed to the attack by members of an extremist religious cult on Iran’s embassy in the British capital and said, “According to the Vienna Convention, the duty to maintain the security of every country’s embassy lies with the security forces of the host country.”

“The criminal action taken by the elements of the deviant cult of Shirazi could have led to the injury of individuals inside the embassy,” he said.

The lawmaker went on to say that the Foreign Ministry has a responsibility to lodge a complaint to international courts about the “blatant aggression”.

In the attack on Friday, four men dressed in black climbed on to a first-floor balcony of the embassy building, took down the Iranian flag, and waved flags of their radical cult in an apparent protest against the Islamic Republic.

No one was hurt during the incident and the trespassers were arrested when they came down after around three hours. The four were detained for causing criminal damage and being unlawfully on diplomatic premises, a spokeswoman for London’s Metropolitan Police said.

Immediately after the incident was reported, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for political affairs, Abbas Araqchi, expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strong protest to the British ambassador to Tehran and demanded that the UK police fully protect Iranian diplomats in London and immediately deal with the assailants.
