Omani FM Due in Tehran, Spokesman Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced that Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah plans to start his official trip to Tehran later on Friday.

The Omani top diplomat is slated to arrive in Tehran on Friday night to hold talks with high-ranking Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Qassemi said on Friday.

While in Iran, bin Alawi plans to discuss various issues, including ways to boost Tehran-Muscat relations in various areas as well as the latest developments in the Middle East region, the spokesman added.

Iran and Oman enjoy age-old and close ties and their relations have become even closer after the two sides' agreements to boost mutual cooperation especially in economic fields.

Oman’s Sultan Qaboos played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers, which led to the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
