Zarif Vows Iran’s Continued Support for Palestinians’ Resistance

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned Israel for killing Palestinians in recent mass protests in the Gaza Strip and pledged that the Islamic Republic will continue its support for Palestine’s resistance.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniya on Tuesday night, Zarif sympathized with Palestinians over the martyrdom of defenseless people in recent attacks by the Israeli regime forces in Gaza.

He further expressed solidarity with Palestinians and reaffirmed Iran’s continued support for the anti-Zionist resistance of the nation.

The Iranian top diplomat also stressed the need for the Islamic world and the United Nations to take “comprehensive measures” in support of the Palestinian people and in condemnation of Israel’s atrocities.

He further emphasized that Iran plans to pursue the recent crimes of the Tel Aviv regime against Palestinians at the UN General Assembly, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Haniya, for his part, expressed his gratitude to Iran for its principled policy to support the Palestinian people’s resistance.

The remarks came as thousands of Palestinians in Gaza took part on Friday in the mass protests to support the return of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to their former homes in the occupied territories.

Israeli security forces killed at least 18 protesters and injured more than 1,400 others, according to media reports.

The issues with respect to use of excessive force and unlawful shootings by the Israeli forces were prompted after a video emerged recently showing one Palestinian being fatally shot from behind while carrying a tire as he ran from the border area.
