Europe Should Urge Trump to Implement JCPOA in 'Good Faith': Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said European leaders should urge US President Donald Trump to start implementing the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers “in good faith”.

“(French) President (Emmanuel) Macron is correct in saying there's no 'Plan B' on JCPOA. It's either all or nothing. European leaders should encourage (US) President (Donald) Trump not just to stay in the nuclear deal, but more importantly to begin implementing his part of the bargain in good faith,” Zarif said in a message posted on his official Twitter account on Monday.

The tweet came after Macron said Paris did not have any viable "Plan B" to replace the international agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Let’s preserve this framework because it’s better than the sort of North Korean type of situation,” Macron added.

Trump in January set a 120-day deadline for US lawmakers and European allies to “fix” his predecessor Barack Obama's main foreign policy achievement or face a US exit.

Since the historic deal was signed by Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) in Vienna in July 2015, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
