Iran Discovers Fate at AFC U-16 Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Islamic Republic of Iran, the 2016 runner-up, has been pitted against Vietnam, India and Indonesia in Group C of the AFC U-16 Championship.

Iran U-16 football team will continue its pursuit of a first title in the continental.

Host Malaysia, quarter-finalist in 2014, drawn in Group A with two-time champion Japan, 1998 winner Thailand and Tajikistan.

Group B has two-time champion DPR Korea with Oman, winner in 1996 and 2000, Yemen and Jordan.

Defending champion Iraq will look to make history by being the first team to win back-to-back titles as it faces Australia, Korea Republic - who won the Championship in 1986 and 2002 - and tournament debutant Afghanistan in Group D.

The tournament which will also serves as a qualification platform for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Peru, with the top four teams going through.

The AFC U-16 Championship will be held in Malaysia from September 20 to October 7.
