Iran’s President Congratulates New Armenian Premier

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Armenia’s new Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on taking the post.

In his congratulatory message to Armenia’s new premier on Wednesday, Rouhani hoped for the expansion of Tehran-Yerevan relations during Pashinyan’s tenure.

Pashinyan, 42, was elected the new prime minister by Armenia’s parliament on May 8 after spearheading weeks of protests in the former Soviet republic.

The new prime minister’s predecessor, Serzh Sargsyan, resigned earlier in the month amid mass protests of the opposition supporters.

In a telephone conversation with the Armenian prime minister on Sunday, Rouhani voiced Iran’s determination to expand relations and cooperation with its neighbors, including Armenia.
