TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Normal life has returned to the Eastern Ghouta district near Damascus and people are peacefully marking the holy month of Ramadan there after the Syrian army and its allies managed to liberate the area from Takfiri terrorists on March 31.

After the so-called Jaish al-Islam Takfiri group left Eastern Ghouta less than two months ago, the Syrian army finished mop-up operations allowing residents to return to their towns and resume normal life, SANA news agency reported.

Takfiri terrorists have lost much of the territory they once held in Syria amid sweeping gains by government forces on the ground.

In April, Syrian forces managed to retake the Eastern Ghouta and Eastern Qalamoun regions near the capital.

For years, the areas had served as a launch pad for deadly terror attacks against civilians in Damascus.
