US behind Massacre of Palestinians: Iran Judiciary Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani condemned the Israeli regime’s recent mass killing of Palestinians, who had protested against the US embassy’s relocation to al-Quds (Jerusalem), and said Washington is behind the tragedy.

Speaking at a meeting with high-ranking judicial officials in Tehran on Monday, Amoli Larijani described the US as the main side to blame for the killing and injuring of hundreds of Palestinians last week and said it created such a catastrophe by giving the greenlight to the Zionists.

“The oppressed people of Palestine, who have been constantly in struggle and displaced over the past 70 years, are well aware that they should continue to resist” he said, adding that the United States also should know that it will no longer be able to cover up the Zionist regime's crimes and the occupation of Palestinian territories.

“Muslims throughout the world regard Quds and the al-Aqsa Mosque as the first Qibla (the direction that should be faced when praying), and today, the Palestinian issue is not only the problem of an oppressed nation, but it is the issue of the Muslim world and nearly two billion Muslims,” the judiciary chief stressed.

Last Monday, tens of thousands of Palestinians rallied near Israel's border fence to protest a blockade of their territory and the move of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds that day.

The Gaza Health Ministry said nearly 60 Palestinians were killed and more than 2,700 others injured, including 1,360 by live fire.

It was the deadliest day in Gaza since a 2014 cross-border war.

US President Donald Trump announced on December 6 that his administration would begin the process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to Quds.

After months of global outcry, the US opened its embassy in Quds in a ceremony attended by a White House delegation and Israeli regime officials on May 14.
