US-Led Coalition Jets Target Syrian Military Sites in Deir Ez-Zor
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US-led coalition warplanes pounded the positions of the Syrian army in the Arab country's eastern Deir ez-Zor province.
“Some of our military sites between Albu Kamal and Hamimia were exposed at dawn today to aggression launched by US coalition jets,” SANA news agency reported on Thursday, citing a military source.
The strikes were near T2, an energy installation located near the border with Iraq and about 100 km (60 miles) west of the Euphrates river, the report added.
A US military official, however, denied any knowledge of the strikes.
“We have no operational reporting of a US-led coalition strike against pro-Syrian regime targets or forces,” Captain Bill Urban, a spokesman for US Central Command, told Reuters.
The US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against what are said to be Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) targets inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.
Earlier in the day, Syrian troops repelled Daesh militant attacks on a number of military sites in Deir ez-Zor province near the border with Iraq.
SANA reported that Daesh militants sought to attack army outposts on the outskirts of Mayadin town, located about 44 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital city of Deir ez-Zor, but they were confronted by units of government troops and their allies.
An unidentified number of terrorists were killed and wounded in the process, and their munitions destroyed.
