Iran’s FM Sends Letter to Counterparts on JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sent separate letters to his foreign counterparts to brief them on the latest developments surrounding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Dr. Zarif, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has, in an elaborate letter to his counterparts from other countries, expounded on the latest situation of the JCPOA following the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the agreement and the continuation of the provocative and illegal approach adopted by the government of this country to scupper this international deal,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Wednesday.

“This important letter will be handed over to the foreign ministers of other countries by ambassadors and special envoys of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the spokesman added, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
