Growing Ties with Spain A Priority for Iran: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a message to the new prime minister of Spain, the Iranian president described “constructive interaction and enhanced relations” with Madrid as a priority for Tehran.

Hassan Rouhani in a message on Tuesday congratulated Pedro Sanchez on being sworn in as Spain’s new prime minister.

“Constructive interaction and development of relations with the friend country of Spain, as an important country in the European Union, based on mutual respect and interests has been a priority for the Islamic Republic of Iran over the past several decades,” the president’s official website quoted him as saying in the letter.

“I hope that through common efforts, we will witness the deepening of the friendly bonds between the two nations and further development of relations in all fields of mutual interest and promotion of international cooperation,” Rouhani added.

On June 2, socialist Pedro Sanchez was sworn in as Spain’s seventh head of government since its return to democracy in the late 1970s, taking over from veteran conservative Mariano Rajoy who was ousted over a corruption scandal.
