IRIB to Launch 8 New TV Channels

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) is going to launch eight new satellite TV channels, including three exclusively broadcasting sports, a deputy IRIB chief said on Saturday.

“One of the new sports channels will be exclusively broadcasting soccer,” Deputy IRIB Head Ali Darabi told Tasnim News Agency.

Apart from the three sports channels, there will be five separate channels for science and technology, economy, pilgrimage, culture and arts, and tourism.

The new channels whose names have still not been decided will be launched within the next few months, according to the official.

Asked about how such channels can compete with foreign satellite networks, Darabi said: "The only country on earth that is concerned about and pays attention to religion and ethics is Iran and the national broadcaster is after producing ethical and acceptable programs."
