Parliament Speaker Commends Team Melli
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani praised the national football team for keeping the pledge to play elegantly in the World Cup tournament, saying their magnificent performance created a new chapter in the history of Iran’s football.
In a message on Tuesday morning, Larijani hailed the team for their determination and tireless efforts in the World Cup matches in Russia.
Pointing to the high praise that Iran has received from the entire world for the World Cup performance, Larijani said the successful presence marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Iran’s football.
The Iranian footballers finished third in the 2018 World Cup “Group of Death” with four points after a 1-1 draw against Portugal in their last group game on Monday night.
Iran had beaten Morocco 1-0 and suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Spain.
The performance of Iranian players in the tournament has won praise from people and experts.
In a message, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the athletes brought glory to Iran by “fighting to realize dreams of a great nation.”
