Soldier Dies in N. Waziristan Explosion

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - One soldier was killed and three others were injured in a roadside bomb blast at Chashma Pul area in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal region, officials said.

A military convoy on way to Bannu district from Miramshah was hit by the remote-controlled bomb when it reached Chashma Pul at about 10am. One soldier was killed and three others suffered injuries, the officials said.

The injured were taken to a hospital in Miramshah. The area where the incident took place was cordoned off and security forces launched a search operation and defused two bombs — one at Patesee Adda near Mirali town and the other on the Mirali-Miramshah road.

A security official was quoted by AFP as saying that an improvised explosive device planted along the roadside went off as a convoy of at least 35 army vehicles passed by it, killing one soldier and wounding three others.

Earlier at around 2am, the Miramshah security camp was attacked with rockets. Security personnel returned fire, but no loss of life and property was reported.
