Iranian, French Foreign Ministers Discuss JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign ministers of Iran and France in a telephone conversation on Thursday discussed the latest developments surrounding the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, aka the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

While Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has travelled to Singapore for a ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian called him up on Thursday to talk about the most recent developments regarding the JCPOA.

The two senior diplomats also discussed the ways to allow Iran to reap the economic benefits of the JCPOA.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has underlined that any decision to keep the JCPOA running without the US should be conditional on “practical guarantees” from the Europeans.
